We tend to believe that we have ample of time to do something about the important things in life. But what we fail to understand is, life is happening right now and sometimes, we only get one shot.
Don’t wait until it’s too late. Here are 11 things you will regret not doing right now.
Not staying true to yourself
You won’t be able to have the kind of life you dream of if you constantly seek the approval of others or try live up to people’s expectations. At some point, you’ll need to break away from it all and live for yourself. Don’t be afraid to be your authentic self. You don’t have to prove anything to people.
Not being a better child, spouse, or parent
Someday you will regret not spending more time with your loved ones or not showing how much you love them. No one lives forever and all you have is right now. Don’t take the people you love for granted. Treat every precious second you have as a gift.
Not letting go of guilt
Holding on to guilt will only make you feel trapped. What’s done is done. If you cannot change the past, let it go. If you’re lucky enough to have the chance to make things better, then take it. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
Not saying ‘no’ to things that bring you stress
It’s normal to feel stressed once in a while, but if you find yourself stressed out on a daily basis, something is clearly not right. Stop saying ‘yes’ to people or situations that add on to your stress. Sometimes you need to put your foot down and take care of yourself first.
Not letting go of fear
Fear of failure. Fear of success. Self-doubt. They will create a wall between you and the person you’re meant to be. If you want a different life, you need to have courage. Don’t be shy to get support from others if you think can’t do it yourself.
Not putting life before work
If you’re the type who works day and night, you will someday be surprised by how the years seem to pass by in a blink of an eye. You will wonder where the time went. Don’t live your life for work. Replacing you is easy, but you have just one life.
Not taking risks
You feel safe in your comfort zone. Even if you don’t find it fulfilling, you stay in your cocoon because it’s what you know best. Don’t be afraid to say ‘yes’ to new opportunities. Go after your dream job. Tick off that bucket list. Most people who live their lives aren’t afraid to take risks.
Not taking better care of yourself
You may be healthy now, but if you don’t take proper care of yourself, you may regret it later in life. Exercise and food choices aside, try to reduce bad habits like excessive drinking or smoking. You also need to take a breather from time to time. Get enough sleep and rest.
Not allowing yourself to be happy
If you spend most of your time worrying, you will never be happy. You are entitled to have some fun. Do the things that bring you joy. You are never too old or too busy. You just need to make yourself a priority once in a while.
Not saving up for the future
If you spend a good amount of your salary on things you don’t need or complain how broke you are half way through the month, just remember that you can’t depend on your parents forever. Even your EPF savings wouldn’t be enough. Putting some money aside each month is for your own good.
Not taking medical insurance
Paying for personal medical insurance might sound like it’s a waste of money, especially when you have other commitments. But you need to be prepared because anything can happen. The older you are, the more it costs so you might as well start now. It’s better to be safe than sorry!
