You know the feeling you get when you come back home after a stressful day at work to a dog wagging its tail vigorously as if you went missing for a year and just reappeared? Yeah that is the feeling we’re talking about. Pets are great listeners, great cuddle buddies plus they never talk back. They might ignore you once or twice but you can always pull them close to you and rant to them like that annoying friend. Research reveals that people who own pets have lower stress levels compared to those who don’t. If you’re planning to get one, do visit the nearest pet shelter and adopt. There are tons of fur-babies needing a home.
Hugs are tiny yet genuine gestures of support, which we all occasionally need especially in moments of stress. Hugs also stimulates the release of oxytocin in the body, relieving anxiety hence reducing stress. There is currently a form of therapy known as hug therapy, which is used to promote healing, and as form of emotional support. So, just ask the person next to you if it is okay for you to hug them because you need a hug and hug away!
Believe it or not, laughter is the best medicine. Laughter releases endorphins and reduces stress hormones. Therefore, when you can feel the tension building up, switch the desktop screen to 9gag (if you are into their humor) or watch a snippet from your favorite standup comedian.
