As a human being, we tend to fret over the little things a lot. We let traffic jams, flight delays, and even tinier situations get to us but the truth is, there is no point wasting our energy on minor mishaps. We might as well use it on bigger things instead of allowing the little ones to ruin our day. It’s just not worth it! Here are 6 methods to not sweat about the small stuff:
Learn to let go
Just close one eye and avoid letting the situation or your emotion overtake you. Always convince yourself that it’s not worth fretting over. Relax and breathe. Things happen and it’s not the end of the world. You will get through it and you will survive!
Think of the light at the end of the tunnel
Remind yourself that this is temporary and try to be optimistic or come up with a solution if it’s something within your control. If there’s nothing you can do, then focus on the things that you can look forward to. Don’t get stuck in negativity. Things will get better!
Give yourself a time limit
If you have to vent or let off some steam, give yourself a time limit. Let it all out and make sure you focus on other things once you’re done. Remember that your energy is precious and it’s not worth the effort.
Look at things from a different angle
Sometimes we really do make a mountain out of a molehill and a little perspective can do wonders. If you misplaced your favourite t-shirt, you don’t have to go crazy just because it’s something you were planning to wear. Eventually you will find it and you can always think of an alternative.
Sometimes you just need to fake it
If ‘worry’ is your middle name, not sweating the small stuff may not happen easily. Try faking it till you make it. Pretend that it doesn’t really bother you and push your negative thoughts aside. Do that every time you start to panic and eventually you’ll get used to it.
Tell yourself that it could be worse
Even if things aren’t going the way your way, things could be a lot worse so try to be grateful. You’re alive and still standing. Waiting for another 10 minutes for your food to arrive will not kill you. Not getting Wi-Fi connection at the cafe you selected does not mean you can’t enjoy your meal.
Never forget that fretting over the small things is completely unnecessary and a waste of energy. Don’t let it control you. Sometimes it really is mind over matter!
