6 Strategies to Develop a Growth Mindset

We don’t grow when things are easy; we grow when we face challenges.

It is absolutely critical to continuously engage in our process for personal growth.

Regardless of how challenging ‘change’ and ‘growing’ tends to be, in order to succeed, we need to train our minds to remain open despite knowing to being wrong.

Every mistake we make is progress. Strength and growth comes through continuous effort and struggle.

Here are 6 strategies to develop a growth mindset you can start practicing to further develop your depth of knowledge and insight.

1. Never stop learning

Our willingness to learn from experiences we encounter around us help to expand and increase our knowledge as well as emotional well-being.

Trials and hardships are part of this learning curve and the greater we are at facing our challenges, the more we are able to develop creative solutions to overcome our setbacks.

It is an opportunity to learn and it gets easier as we push through them.

Never look to others for giving you the sense of self-worth which can only be found within.

2. Being persistent

All great things are built upon trials.

In order for us to grow despite the challenges and frustrations we will meet, we must not place our attention on what is entirely happening around us but to focus on the outcome and results that will be happening for us.

We need to constantly be aware that obstacles are only temporary setbacks; learning curves of which we need to go through in order to strengthen and empower us for what is coming ahead.

Many of life’s failure are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. -Thomas Edison

3. Do not fear in times of challenge

Obstacles and challenges are really part of an indispensable element to success.

In fact, it is through these challenges that we overcome, shapes and develops us into the person we are capable of being.

When we confront our fears and challenges, we are more acutely aware of the steps we need to eventually take to reach greater heights. Not to mention as well, it is also a humbling process as we realize there are many things we have yet to learn about.

For every conquered challenge, we feel the sense of personal responsibility and pride for ourselves, knowing that we have taken an action many others would possibly succumb to.

The true test of a champion is not whether he can triumph, but whether he can overcome obstacles.

4. Embrace failure

There is truth in the saying, “We learn from failure not from success“.

Just as obstacles, we cannot deny the fact that at some point in time, we are bound to make poor decisions which may lead to utter discouragement and possibly some kind of failure.

However, it was never failure itself that holds us back. It is the fear of failure that paralyzes us.

Instead of fearing failure and fear itself which benefits nothing but pulls us back from our potential and reach, we need to take a crucial shift of perspective to be fully aware of all the opportunities we could potentially miss.

Why hold yourself back when you are capable of so much more?

Embrace failure and learn from trying times. Use it to your advantage to propel you further.

Failure doesn’t mean the game is over. It means try again with experience.

5. Open to critiques and feedback

Good feedback is the key to improvement. To start, we need to be more open to receiving them; even the non-constructive ones.

Any kind of feedback is essential. It can make us bitter or better. When we choose the latter, we are embracing a key component for greater growth and improvement.

From feedback, we are aware of what it will take for us to improve better at a much faster pace as well as helping us identify what works.

“I think it’s very important to have a feedback loop, where you’re constantly thinking about what you’ve done and how you could be doing it better. I think that’s the single best piece of advice: constantly think about how you could be doing things better and questioning yourself.” -Elon Musk

6. Celebrate other’s success

Thing is, supporting another’s success won’t dampen ours.

In fact, it gives room for us to genuinely enjoy the fruit of success, encouraging us further into reaching it for ourselves.

At the same time, it says a lot about a person how one handle other’s success. It is a sign of maturity and it goes a lot to show that we are not intimidated by others.

Really great people make us feel that we too, can become great. Be that person.

When other are up among the stars, celebrate with them. We were all sent here to shine and we shine brighter when we all work together.
