How To Build Self-Worth And Start Believing in Yourself Again

Build-Self-Worth-And-Start-Believing-in-Yourself

Love yourself… enough to take the actions required for your happiness… enough to cut yourself loose from the drama-filled past… enough to set a high standard for relationships… enough to feed your mind and body in a healthy manner… enough to forgive yourself… enough to move on.

In this day and age, more people are feeling down on themselves than ever before.

A few decades ago, we didn’t have a device in our pocket always reminding us of how many “likes” we got or how many “followers” we’ve acquired. However, self-confidence has always been a challenge for many people across the globe, even before social media.

A Cornell study found that women tend to have lower self-confidence than men. In fact, men are more likely to overestimate their own abilities while women underestimate both their abilities and performance.

This has nothing to do with their actual potential and everything to do with the way they’re taught to see themselves.

Whether you’re a man or a woman, you need to develop ways to overcome these challenges and rebuild your own self-worth. It’s not about the numbers on the screen or even what you see in the mirror.

Today, we need to shift the focus back on our values as human beings. Let’s rebuild our own confidence one step at a time.

Break up with social media

Unfortunately, if you want to see a major change in your self-confidence, you’re going to need to change your habits. Social media shows us the highlights without showing us the other side of the story.

It’s hard to feel good about yourself when you’re bombarded with photos of other people success and photo-shopped bodies.

In a survey for young people between the ages of 16 and 24, it was discovered that Instagram is the worst social network for self-esteem.

This doesn’t mean you have to delete your account. Simply delete the app and take a break. Return in a few days when you’ve had a chance to clear your mind.

From there, purge the accounts that don’t make you feel good about yourself. You don’t need to follow anyone who doesn’t bring you joy and happiness.

Ask for help

There’s nothing wrong with asking for help if you need it. While you might not need professional help, sometimes it doesn’t hurt to have someone to talk to.

Confide in a friend or loved one about how you’ve been feeling. Ask for positive feedback.

We’re our own biggest critics. Those who love and care about us often see us in a much more positive light. Ask them how they think about you, and what their favorite parts about you are.

You might be surprised to learn that you mean a lot to a lot of people.

Make lifestyle changes

If you’re wrapped up in negative feelings, it might be time for a lifestyle change. Bad habits like poor eating and a lack of exercise can help you feel worse about yourself.

While this doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with your body, everyone could benefit from being healthier.

Exercising regularly reduces the chance of depression and anxiety. It’s good for your body and your mind. Plus, when you start to get up and get moving, your body will start to change as well. There’s nothing better than working on a better version of yourself.

Dress with confidence

Have you ever heard of the phrase “fake it till you make it?” While it might sound bogus, it’s actually a powerful tool for boosting your own confidence. When we feel bad about ourselves and our lives, we tend to reflect that in how we dress.

Make a change to clothes that help you shine. No matter your size, there’s a style for you. Don’t forget about what’s underneath either. The right underwear can revolutionize how you feel, even if nobody sees it but you. At Three Wishes we have a variety of lingerie for every body and style.

Work on your outer clothes. Put more effort into how you look every day. This doesn’t mean putting on a full face of makeup if that’s not something you’re comfortable with.

It does mean trying your best to present the best version of yourself to the world. Soon, you’ll feel that confidence shine through.

Speak slower and confidently

Did you know speaking too quickly is one of the most common speech problems today? If you’re a fast-talker, you’re not the only one. While it might be fine to breeze through your thoughts when you’re chatting with your friends, this rapid way of speaking might be doing a number to your confidence and perception.

When you speak too fast, you lose your audience. You’ll sound nervous and it’s as if you want to get this over and done with. This will get in the way during networking events, important work meetings, and even a first date.

How do you actually slow down and talk more mindfully?

One of the best strategies is to practice your phrasing. This means taking the time to pause for commas, periods, and even question marks.

Instead of jamming your phrases together, take a moment to pause regularly between parts of speech. Soon, it’ll become second nature and you’ll be speaking with confidence.

Celebrate the wins

Finally, you need to take the time to recognize how far you’ve come.

Even small steps mean you’ve done something to improve your self-worth, and that’s worth everything.

If you got outside and went on a walk, that’s a win. If you invested in a shirt that makes you look great, that’s a win.

These small things add up to real-life confidence. Give yourself credit where credit is due.

You’re worth it. Get into the habit of listing these small improvements. Having a way to look back on how far you’ve come will make all the difference.

In the end…

Your self-worth is one of the most important things you have. It’s more important than likes on a screen or follower counts.

Recognize that the time is now to make a change for the better. It’s okay to start small as long as you’re getting started in the first place.

Here’s to a new leaf and a positive change. Don’t neglect your self-confidence when it gets you so far in life.

No matter where you are now, commit to going further tomorrow.
