If you tend to drag yourself to the office every morning, it’s time to make some changes. Here’s how to stay positive at work:
Stay away from the drama
Don’t get tangled with office politics or join in with the gossips to fit in. Just mind your own business and focus on your work. If people talk about you behind your back, let them. You’re better off without all the negativity.
Have lunch with your colleagues
It’s not wrong to prefer eating your own food in the pantry or working during lunchtime because it’s peaceful and quiet. However, it’s important to socialise with your colleagues once in a while. You don’t want people to think you’re anti-social.
Brighten up your workspace
Decorate your desk with things that can brighten up your mood. It could be photo frames, pictures of your favourite countries, or even stuffed toys. Just make sure you don’t go overboard in order to be able to concentrate better.
Have some fun
Try mixing it up a little instead of being so serious all the time. Joke around with your colleagues, talk about subjects that are not work-related, or just be silly once in a while. You can even decorate your colleague’s desk with funny items while they’re on vacation!
Take regular breaks
Take a break when you feel burned out or stressed. Forcing yourself to continue working will not help. You can even take a break after completing a task. Get some snacks, go to the pantry, or read interesting articles online. It’s not a crime to let your brain rest.
Don’t bite off more than you can chew
You may prefer to do everything yourself or want things to be done a certain way, but sometimes it’s good to slow down. Ask for help if you can’t cope instead of letting yourself drown. Be stern about the timeline you need to complete a job and set some boundaries.
Protect your personal life
Make sure you have a healthy work-life balance. Be home for dinner. Spend time with your family. Catch up with your friends every now and then. Never make work your entire life because somewhere down the road, you will regret it.
Be kind to your colleagues and do something nice for them once in a while. If it’s someone’s birthday, surprise them with a gift. If they look stressed, try ask if they need any help. It doesn’t hurt to be kind and people will appreciate you for it.
Be a team player
Avoid keeping to yourself all the time. Take part in discussions. Be excited about team building activities. Offer to help with the office open houses during festive seasons. Join team performances. Don’t be so shy or aloof.
Join after-work activities
You might prefer going straight home after a tiring day at work but try not to decline invitations. Spend some time with your colleagues and bond with them once in a while. Whether it’s dinner, a karaoke session, or bowling, you might be surprised how much fun you can have.
